SO/ BANGKOK is consistently ranked among the best hotel experiences in Bangkok. It also happens to be very, very gay. The hotel previously hosted gCircuit, Asia's most prominent gay party organizer. On every other night, it’s only marginally less convenient to find a gay party: after all, the hotel is just a short walk to the gay nightlife of Silom.

It also happens to be a stunning hotel. Its sleek, nature-inspired design is visible in every little detail, from the stunning lobby to the forest-themed SoSPA wellness facilities. Each room is beautifully themed according to the Chinese elements of water, earth, wood, and metal, meaning you get a boutique experience with a high-end feel.

Location

This is why SO/ Bangkok is so popular among gay tourists visiting Thailand. Situated on the main road, Rama IV, it’s a 20-minute walk to (or stumble home from) Silom Soi 2, where all the best hot gay nightclubs are. Silom is Bangkok’s gayborhood! It’s also conveniently across the road from Lumpini Park, where you can go running or work out in one of the outdoor gyms. The MRT, Bangkok’s underground subway system, has a stop practically on your doorstep.

Thailand's top five designers and fashion icon, Christian Lacroix, all got together and had a baby, and it’s called SO/ Bangkok. Designed around the five elements: water, earth, wood, metal, and fire, the hotel is the perfect synergy of contrasts. Each of the five designers worked with one element, and Monsieur Lacroix left his finishing touches on everything from the bedding to the uniforms.

Facilities

There are rooftop pools all over this city, but none of them are like the infinity pool at SO/ Bangkok. Located on the 10th floor, the pool overlooks Lumpini Park and is a generous 105ft long. Book your stay to coincide with the last Saturday of the month, and you can join the legendary pool party that SO/ Bangkok has become known for. World-famous DJs play here, so for the coolest (literally) venue in the city, this hotel has you covered. If you’d prefer a hotel massage instead of a local Silom one, the SO/ SPA is luxury++, has fantastic views over the park, and is open daily from 10 a.m. It gets swamped, so bookings are essential. Hungry or thirsty? With two restaurants, a cafe, and three bars, you’ll never need to leave the hotel. Red Oven offers all-day buffet dining, and SOSHI, SO/ Bangkok’s answer to Japanese fine dining, has a la carte or all-you-can-eat options. Our favorite bar is HISO, perched 29 floors above the city; it’s the best rooftop bar Bangkok has to offer and the only one with Lumpini Park views.
