As the closest beach resort town to Bangkok, Pattaya has one of Thailand’s liveliest gay scenes, as well as some of its most notorious nightlife. Most of the gay bars and clubs are concentrated in two areas of central Pattaya near the beach, BoyzTown and Sunee Plaza. However, there is a third gay hub in the area: Dongtan beach in Jomtien, a little bit south of Pattaya.
The city has for a long time been infamous for its seedy sex industry. This bad reputation is dissipating as the sex trade becomes regulated and a more relaxed, family-friendly vibe settles in through the area. That said, central Pattaya is still a loud, hedonistic party town, and there is still very much a seedy underbelly to it all.
This is why many visitors prefer to stay in Jomtien. This gives them easy access to the fun gay beach life (and after all, that’s what you’re looking for when you head to the Thai coast) while also having the option to hop on a taxi and go out in Pattaya.
However, the party scene in Pattaya is undoubtedly fun, and many people just want to stay at the heart of it all. Ultimately, it’s down to what you like: stay in Pattaya if you enjoy a more hardcore party vibe, or head to Jomtien if spending the day on a gay beach is more your thing.
Pattaya is a very popular gay destination, so there is no such thing as non-gay-friendly accommodation. Every hotel in the area will be used to receiving gay guests, and it is unheard of for gay travelers to have issues.
There are a few hotels and resorts which are particularly popular with gay visitors, especially ones close to Dongan Beach such as Rabbit Resort, Zing Resort and Spa, and Welcome World Beach Resort and Spa. Renaissance Pattaya was honestly the most relaxing and pleasantly surprising part of our trip, beginning with welcome champagne and a private rose petal bath. We stayed in a massive two-story villa complete with our own private pool and a dedicated car service, meaning you can easily just stay in and chill all day in total luxury. Between the beautiful afternoon tea served inside and a special live performance arranged just for us, the atmosphere here is incredibly photo-worthy and elite.
This hotel is perfect for couples looking to fully unwind and escape the crowds. We felt very comfortable throughout, enjoying the deep sense of privacy and high-end service that makes this resort a standout luxury sanctuary in Pattaya.

Waking up to a sea view from our room was so memorable. The infinity pool is a key highlight, it’s huge and perfect for photos. The rooms are chic, and having an outdoor bathtub on the balcony is simply luxury (and pretty sexy!). Dinner at Horizon on the 34th floor was superb. It was the perfect way to relax and recharge.
The staff were really friendly and welcoming to us. The infinity pool oversees the sea and is a great social spot for gay guests. It’s a very relaxing, inclusive trip that I’d recommend to anyone looking for a beachside escape near Bangkok.

This hidden gem sits on a peaceful hill in south Pattaya overlooking the ocean, wrapped in lush trees and a beautiful cascading architectural view that makes it feel like a true getaway resort. The rooms are clean, great, and feature huge, highly comfortable beds. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the breakfast buffet is delicious with massive variety. The property features three distinct pools with completely different vibes, though the rugged coastal edge means you trade a swimmable sand beach for beautiful rocky views.
I felt completely safe and at ease at this premium resort. The private, secluded nature of the property and its scenic hills make it an exceptional sanctuary where you can fully unwind and relax in complete peace.
