Location

Boutique Hotel MOTTO is in the Mariahilf district of Vienna. It has been there since 1665 and, despite numerous renovations, still retains most of its original style. It’s a block from the Haus des Meeres aquarium, and the Neubaugasse subway station is steps away from the hotel. Popular gay venue Felixx Bar is one kilometer east of the property. The Mariahilf district is Vienna's fashion-forward center and contains many chic shops, cafes, and cultural attractions. 1.5 kilometers east of Hotel Motto is the UNESCO World Heritage site Innere Stadt, home to many of the city's monuments, cathedrals, and museums.

Style & Design

Throw together 1920s Paris with Scandinavian comfort, Japanese ‘Wabi-Sabi’ culture, and some flea market chic, and that sums up Boutique Hotel MOTTO. Entering the lobby transports you back to the 1920s, complete with artsy mirrors and playful chandeliers. It’s ethereal and fairytale-like. Proceed further into the hotel, where punk rock meets avant-garde. Arkan Zeytinoglu Architects designed the interiors exclusively for Boutique Hotel MOTTO. Plush fabrics adorn the walls, and some original vintage furniture pieces are courtesy of the Hotel Ritz in Paris. The hotel’s real point of difference is its controversial artwork. The intention is to pay tribute to the hotel’s nearly 400-year history but with an avant-garde take. Mexican artist Victoria Barmak has an LGBTQI collection there.

Facilities

The 7th floor houses Chez Bernard, Boutique Hotel MOTTO’s signature restaurant. It’s housed underneath a glass dome and decorated with lush greenery. It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the bar closes at 1 am. The menu features modern. Austrian fare with French and Mediterranean influences with organic ingredients at the heart of every dish. The rooftop terrace on the 8th floor provides views right across Vienna. It’s mid-century style with candy colors, metal shelves, and umbrellas—think of Palm Springs in the summer. Food is served from the restaurant below. The rooftop terrace is seasonal and is closed for the winter months. Motto Brot in the lobby is a Parisian-style bakery that is popular with Viennese locals for their morning heart starter. The 65 sqm wellness area contains gym equipment, a sauna, and a steam room. Guests looking for fitness or yoga classes can attend them at the nearby Box Gym Coop and Mindful Health / Yoga and Meditation Coop, which are partners of the hotel.

Rooms

Boutique Hotel MOTTO has 85 rooms and six suites. Each room feels like stepping into a piece of art, loving touches like custom-made door handles, retro-feel lampshades, elegant bathroom tiles, and Venetian mirrored walls. The gorgeous box-spring beds are made of natural materials, the floors are made of oiled herringbone parquet, and the windows are soundproof to guarantee a peaceful night’s sleep. We love the Art Deluxe rooms. They’re up to 35 sqm, each with a unique story to tell, and all feature graffiti art by artist Sasha Knezevic. In keeping with the hotel’s social responsibility, the bathroom amenities are from the famous Viennese Saint Charles range; the nearby pharmacy has been providing skin care products for six generations. They’re locally produced, contain organic ingredients, and add an additional touch of class to every room.
