London Gay Clubs

London Gay Clubs

Soho may be the heart of gay London, but its super-central location means there’s little room for big, sprawling dance floors. Don’t worry, though: a 15-minute walk will get you to embankment, home to CIRCA and Heaven, and a quick bus will take you to Vauxhall, which has the highest concentration of gay nightclubs and parties in the city, including after-hours parties that keep going until 10 AM.

Clubs usually get busy when the bars close, around midnight – a bit later (about 1 or 2 AM) on weekends.

Soho is the best area for gay nightclubbing, with Vauxhall being another firm favourite. If you want to venture beyond the gay scene, other popular nightlife areas outside the city centre include Shoreditch, Camden, and Brixton.

G-A-Y @ Heaven and UNION are two of the most iconic gay clubs in the city, and the most popular places to end a night out in Soho and Vauxhall respectively.

G-A-Y Late is located a short walk from G-A-Y Bar, and is where most people head to once the latter shuts at midnight. Less glitzy than Heaven, it’s more of a sticky-floors-and-dirty-toilets kind of club, with cheap drinks and cheesy pop tunes. Members only on Sundays, £1 entry with a wristband from G-A-Y bar on most other nights.

BJ’s White Swan fills a much-needed niche for a fun, unpretentious gay club in the East End of London. The location in Limehouse is a little out of the way, but you can combine it with The Old Ship nearby for a relaxed night out – be warned, many people claim that it’s become much more of a straight bar in the past few years. Weekly drag piano bar and occasional cabaret shows, plus DJs on the weekends (£5 entry after 10:30).
