Palms Springs is where gay people go to chillax and play. The area is relatively compact, and everything is within a 2–3 mile radius.
There are plenty of accommodation options, from sprawling resorts on giant acreages to compact boutique properties with less than ten rooms. Whatever your budget, there’s a property for you in Palm Springs.
Palm Springs is cheaper than Los Angeles or San Francisco; room nights cost less, so you can stay longer.
Most properties have pools and fitness centers, those that don’t provide membership access to local facilities.
Palm Springs hotels aren’t just gay-friendly; they’re gay-exclusive. We’ve yet to come across a city that has as many gay-men-only resorts as Palm Springs has. Most of them are clothing-optional, which explains why there aren’t any saunas or bathhouses in the district. Many of these resorts offer day passes, so visitors don’t always sleep there.
The rest of the hotels are clamoring for your pink dollar, so expect to be treated like the VIPs that you are wherever you go.
Palm Springs is predominantly a gay destination, yet there are three gayborhoods.
For partying and socializing, there’s the ‘gay strip,’ which is a couple of blocks on Arenas Rd between S Palm Canyon Drive and S Calle Encilla. Some well-known gay venues have been there for 20 years, like Hunters and QUADZ. You could spend an entire night bar-hopping along this couple of blocks. A few hotels are on or adjacent to Arenas Rd, making a night out easily accessible.
Most of the exclusive gay, clothing-optional resorts are located between Ramon Rd and E Sunny Dunes Drive, only a mile south of the gay strip of Arenas Rd. Some of these resorts are next door to each other.
Palm Springs’ third gayborhood, Cathedral City, is where some of the luxury chain resorts like JW Marriot and Ritz Carlton can be found. These resorts are on sprawling acres of land. The venues in this area are near the Canyon Plaza Shopping Center on E Palm Canyon Drive, which is the main highway through the area.
