Drink.
Koh Phi Phi is known as a huge party island. There is a party happening every night of the week plus hotels host pool parties on the weekends. There is not a real gay scene in Koh Phi Phi, so it’s not the best place to meet guys (doesn’t mean its not going to happen!). However, if you are visiting with friends or a partner, the nightlife here is some of the wildest in Thailand, so you are guaranteed a good time. Even if you’re traveling solo, the island’s welcoming and laid-back vibe makes it incredibly easy to make new friends.
Most party people head to Koh Phi Phi, whose nightlife is small but wild enough to keep anyone entertained. The areas of Tonsai Village and Loh Dalum are filled with bars, pubs, and clubs of all types, and the vibe is young, fun, and pleasantly unsleazy. The nightlife of Koh Phi Phi is its main draw for most overnight visitors.
Bars start to get busy from 8 pm and the club vibes start building from 10 pm and last until 2 am or later.
If you are wanting to explore Koh Phi Phi’s nightlife makes sure you stay in the Ton Sai area. There are no roads on Koh Phi Phi, so no buses or taxis. If you want to party you will have to be within walking distance of the bars.
There a lot of buckets in Phi Phi. The Thai classic has to be SangSom. Confusingly it’s often sold as “Thai whiskey” but is actually rum, distilled from sugarcane. SangSom is the main component of Thailand’s notorious “buckets of alcohol.”
Beer is big in Thailand. The biggest local brands are Chang, Leo, and Sighna. Red Bull’s roots are also in Thailand but note the original/local version is not carbonated (no fizz or bubbles).
There is not a direct gay scene in Koh Phi Phi but nightlife here is some of the wildest in Thailand, so you are guaranteed a good time.
Upon first inspection, you won’t find anything too different from the buckets, beers, and beach parties of other classic Thai party destinations like Phuket and Koh Phangan. But look a bit closer and you will find an interesting variety of ambiances and styles among the island’s bars and clubs.
Wild bars include Slinky and Stones right on Loh Dalum beachfront. But there are laid-back rock’n’roll hippie shacks like Rolling Stoned bar, classic beach party bars like Carlito’s, and the sometimes disturbing yet endlessly entertaining Reggae Bar, which offers drunk revelers the chance to try out some entirely unexperienced Thai Boxing.
You can party until the sun rises (and beyond) in one spot, or you can easily bar hop since everything is just a short walk away.
