Strand Palace Hotel is located between the City and the West End, giving you the best access to the city at large. Trafalgar Square, with its museums and landmarks, is a very short walk away, as is Covent Garden. It’s 15 minutes to the gay bars and clubs of Soho, and you are also very close to the river Thames and walking distance to riverside attractions such as the London Eye and Big Ben.
The hotel is 100 years old but is currently in the process of refurbishing all their rooms – they are doing their best to limit the disruption to their guests, but it might be worth checking when works are going to be underway. The Deluxe and Superior rooms have already been refurbished, and with the hotel’s low rates it is definitely worth the extra money for the modern decor and extra amenities. Do note that air-conditioning is only available in the Superior rooms, so definitely go for these if you are staying in the peak of summer.
Strand Palace Hotel also has very good bar and dining options for a 4-star, including a New York-style brasserie, an excellent cafe, and a bar specializing in gin cocktails. There is a well-equipped gym that is free for all guests. It’s located right next to the cafe so you can follow up your workout with a healthy snack.
