Location

Savoy Palace is undoubtedly one of the most high-end hotels on the Funchal waterfront, providing a five-star option for those who want to stay close to the action. Staying in Funchal, you are within easy walking distance to great restaurants, shops, and nightlife, while still being a short drive from most of Madeira’s natural wonders.

Style & Design

Opened in summer 2019, Savoy Palace is impeccably modern and, in hotel terms, essentially brand-new. Its purpose-built structure offers fabulous views from most rooms and areas, while the interior design by famous Madeiran designer Nini Andrade Silva is both tasteful and unique. Usual flourishes like oversized chandeliers and ceilings which dip and curve in unexpected places elevate things beyond your usual all-white-and-beige decor found in many high-end resorts. Some interiors are especially gorgeous, such as the nature-inspired spa and the night sky themed Galáxia Skybar.

Facilities

Savoy Palace’s large main pool, surrounded by sun loungers and crossed by a delicate golden bridge, is beautiful enough, but the Galaxia Skypool on the rooftop is where it’s really at. This infinity pool sits at the very top of the resort, offering incredible views - and it’s adults-only, too. The spa is fantastic, with gorgeous decor, luxurious treatments, and facilities include sensorial showers, heated indoor pool, ice bath, and even a champagne and nail bar. There is also a stylish gym surrounded by greenery. The hotel is home to three bars, each with its own unique atmosphere, and seven dining options, ranging from high-end set menus to relaxed poolside snacks. The Premium Lounge, containing a jacuzzi, cocktail bar, infinity pool, and private sun deck, is a cool perk for Premium guests, i.e: those who book a suite or Premium Double Room.

Rooms

The rooms at Savoy Palace are all decorated in warm neutral shades, with touches of muted gold that elevate the decor without making it gaudy. The standard doubles come in Avenue, Garden, and Ocean view - all are spacious and bright, with large windows, a balcony, and a supremely comfortable king-size bed. Higher categories (all with ocean views) can get you a larger balcony or a walk-in closet. If you want to take it up a notch, you should consider one of the suites, which are more spacious and which come with Premium Service. As well as access to the Premium Lounge and Sundeck, this gives you free Spa access, private check-in and check-out, and free breakfast by the pool. The pool suites, in particular, are well worth the splurge. For larger groups (up to five people), there are apartments available with kitchenettes.
