While many gay bars in Singapore are shut down, Backstage Bar is one of the longest-run and popular gay bars in Chinatown, opens daily from 5 pm – 10:30 pm. The bar is located right behind Tantric Bar, another well-known gay bar on Neil Road. Backstage Bar offers both indoor and outdoor areas, cozy and comfortable sofas.
Music: The bar plays current top 40 music.
Crowd: Popular across the full mix of diversity with friendly staff and a chill atmosphere. Backstage Bar is best for an early start or a late-night out in town.
Dress: Shirt and jeans or t-shirt with short are all good to go for Chinatown. Please note some bars prefer proper shoes as it’s safer for broken glasses.
Backstage Bar is located in Chinatown on Neil Road, home to most of Singapore’s gay bars. Overall the area is convenient for bar hopping.
Taxi: Ask for Neil Road in Chinatown, most taxi is familiar with the area. Get out at the corner of Teck Lim Road and Neil Road, you will see Tantric Bar first and Backstage is located behind it.
MRT: Nearest station to Backstage Bar is Chinatown MRT Station on the North-East Line and the Downtown Line. Take exit A by escalator (not staircase) then walk straight all the way to the end of Pagoda Street and take right onto South Bridge Rd. Carry on walking for about 5 mins to see Neil Road around 10 mins walk to the bar.
