Design Hotel

art’otel has one of the best locations in Amsterdam, just opposite Central Station. When you stay here, you are perfectly positioned to explore the canals as well as various famous landmarks such as Anne Frank House, Dam Square, and the red light district.

Arguably more interestingly, however, you are also a 5-minute walk away from Amsterdam’s gay institutions like The Queen’s Head and Café ‘t Mandje and just around the corner from Amsterdam’s only gay sauna, Sauna Nieuwezijds. This, combined with the exceptional design and service delivered by this modern 5-star, makes it one of the most popular and most booked gay hotels in Amsterdam.

This Instagram-perfect hotel is a contemporary designer affair, featuring original artwork by Dutch sculptor Joep van Lieshout’s studio. The rooms are decorated in a subtle and understated style, with cool greys and whites contrasting with sleek black surfaces. But it’s not just about design – heavenly beds, relaxing mood lighting, and luxurious rain showers all combine to create a soothing and supremely comfortable atmosphere.

Perhaps art’otel’s biggest selling point is 5&33, the hotel’s restaurant / bar / venue / library / lounge / art gallery. The food is exceptional, the cocktails inventive, and there is always something going on – don’t miss out on their weekly promotions in the restaurant! There is also a very good Active Club with gym, indoor swimming pool, and sauna.

Location

The hotel has one of the best locations in the city: directly opposite Amsterdam Centraal train station. This makes it an easy transfer whether you’re arriving by rail or air (there is a direct train service from Schipol Airport), and it also places you right on the Damrak, one of Amsterdam’s main avenues. Perhaps most importantly, the hotel is also a 2-minute walk from Sauna Nieuwezijds, Amsterdam’s top-of-the-range gay sauna.

Style & Design

art’otel amsterdam is all about, well, art. Original artwork by Atelier Van Lieshout on display throughout the building and the 5&33 Gallery upstairs has a rotating display of contemporary artists. The interiors are all strikingly modern and are mostly in a monochrome palette of grey, white, and black. This contrasts beautifully with the old-fashioned exterior of the building.

Facilities

The hotel restaurant, 5&33 Kitchen, serves up a Mediterranean-inspired menu of small bites – don’t miss out on their truffle specialties and Truffle Tuesdays. The bar is known for its creative cocktails, hosting a weekly live music night as well as DJ sessions every weekend. The Active Club has everything you need to stay in shape and unwind, including a great gym, a heated indoor pool, and a Finnish sauna. Access to all of these is complimentary for all guests.

Rooms

Every room is perfectly designed with the guests’ comfort in mind, and they are all extremely spacious by Amsterdam standards. All of them feature art’otel’s signature extra-comfy beds, Egyptian cotton 400-thread linen, rain showers, Elemis toiletries, Illy espresso machine, Bluetooth speaker, a unique piece of art by Joep van Lieshout, and more. Depending on which specific category you book, you can look forward to perks like complimentary drinks and nibbles at 5&33 bar and city views.
