Best Hotels For a Weekend Away From Bangkok

Bangkok is the gay capital of Thailand (as well as the actual capital), but sometimes you need a weekend getaway just to chill and regroup. Thailand has a lot to offer, and here are some options:

Hua Hin – is 3 hours south of Bangkok; it’s absolute beachfront and was formerly the playground of the royal family.

Kanchanaburi – steeped in history, the famous Bridge Over the River Kwai (featured in the movie of the same name) is here. Kanchanaburi is 2 hours northwest of Bangkok and has a river and mountains vibe.

Khao Yai – a paradise for nature lovers, 3 hours north-east of Bangkok, it’s Thailand’s oldest national park. It’s the gateway to Isaan, the ‘other’ Thailand.

Pattaya – 2 hours from Bangkok, gay Pattaya is a beachside party destination. However, you can have it both ways by escaping the parties in some of the luxury resorts that surround the town.

Heading out into the provinces doesn’t mean you need to forego luxury. We will tell you about six properties that will blow your mind. Are you ready? Let’s go.

Why we love it

♥ 180-degree views of the Kwai Noi River
♥ Minimalist design with an industrial touch
♥ The floating cabins with the personal kayak
♥ Infinity pool with river views

Kanchanaburi is famous for its river, and you can’t stay there without experiencing a night in a floating cabin. It’s not as scary as it sounds. The cabins are attached to the resort but on the river. They’re decked out with all the mod-cons you need, including a king bed! While we love the floating cabins — I mean, who doesn’t want their own personal kayak — upgrading to the pool villa is totally worth the extra baht.

The onsite restaurant, The Bridge Bar & Bistro, has an extensive menu of both Thai and International food. Did we mention the pool yet? How does an infinity pool with views of the river sound? If you’re having a weekend away where all you want to do is lounge around the hotel, the Cross River Kwai has you covered.
