10 Best Gay Hotels in Milan

Milan is perhaps Italy’s most refined and sophisticated city, home of high fashion, cutting-edge design, and impressive architecture. It is also the largest business hub in the country, and these factors can lead to steep rates, especially during peak tourism season and when major conventions are in town.

Milan is a pretty expensive city, so if you want luxury it will come at a cost. We have highlighted some of the city’s best four-star gay-friendly hotels offering Milano elegance and sophistication at more reasonable Milano prices

Generally speaking, the closer to Duomo (the city’s iconic cathedral and its surrounding area), the more expensive the hotel, with more affordable options tending to sit up north towards the Central Station. If your priority is exploring gay Milan, you may want to stay in that direction, while those keen on Milan’s art and history will prefer to stay closer to the city center. The metro system allows you to easily cross longer distances – look out for hotels near stations to stay connected to Milan at large.

Milan is probably Italy’s most modern and liberal city – as such, gay travelers here can be more at ease than they would be in some other more conservative parts of Italy. This is especially for hotels in the Porta Venezia and Old Town area of Milan, where gay displays of affection are fairly common and unlikely to draw any attention.

Sadly, Italy does lag behind other Western countries in certain areas of LGBT rights. The laws regarding discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and identity are also less developed than in many other European countries. Gay marriage is not yet legal in the country, and neither is same-sex adoption.

All of the gay-friendly hotels in this list are located Northeast of the city center, where most of gay Milan converges – specifically, the Old Town and the area surrounding Porta Venezia. The focal point of this neighborhood is Corso Buenos Aires, a shopper’s paradise containing the highest concentration of clothing stores in Europe. If you’re in town to shop and party, this has to be where you stay in Milan.

There’s another advantage to this location: most of the hotels in this list are close to Central Station. This is ideal for most travelers, since as well as being where most trains come in, the station is where the airport shuttle arrives and departs from.
