Key West is steeped in gay history and remains an extremely welcoming area for gay travelers. There’s something here for every level of vacationer.
Luxury ocean and beachfront properties dot the island around the coast. Inland, you’ll find quaint boutique hotels and some complexes made of neighboring cottages.
There are still four gay properties, and if you’re in the mood to make new friends and party in the pool day and night, you can find many like-minded visitors at these resorts.
Duval Street in the Old Town is where the bulk of the gay bars and venues are located, and many properties are either on this road or within a couple of blocks.
One of the reasons every gay man should go to Key West is that there are a number of gay-owned and operated hotels. There’s just something better about staying in a resort run by one of us.
Sadly, though, there are only four left, and they get booked out, so it’s a good thing every other resort and hotel welcomes gay travelers with open arms. With the number of gay men living in Key West, you’re bound to find at least one staff member who thinks like you do.
Key West is so small, at 7.5 sqm, that you could walk it in half a day. So, even though the party scene is on Duval Street, you could really stay anywhere.
If being central to the action is essential, then go with Old Town. There are a ton of hotels nearby, from budget to luxury, so take your pick.
If the ocean or beachfront is more your style, Casa Marina is the area for you. If getting away from it all is more your style, the northwest corner of the island is our pick.
No matter where you stay, the gay vibe in Key West is everywhere, and you’ll feel like you’re on your own private island, which you kind of are.
♥ Gay male-only resort
♥ Clothing optional areas
♥ Two heated pools and two hot tubs
♥ No two rooms are the same
For the best location right in the heart of all the gay venues, at very affordable prices, New Orleans House is hard to pass up. We love sitting on the communal balcony overlooking Duval Street and watching the gay action occur.
There are a number of rooms to choose from, and our favorite is the cottage with easy access to the pool.
It’s exclusively gay-male here, so come as a couple, or if you’re single, you could meet some new friends.

♥ No two rooms are the same
The Equator Resort is a clothing-optional gay male resort located in Key West’s Old Town, three blocks from the party action on Duval Street. The resort is strictly adults-only; you even need to be over 18 just to view its website.
It’s unique because it’s a block of five Conch-Style houses, all next door to each other. There are 34 rooms in total; each one is different and provides its charm. Some even have 2-man whirlpool tubs.
There are some minor reservations to the bar area and the stairs planned for early 2024, so be sure to check that status when you make your booking.
♥ Three pools and a jacuzzi
♥ Bring a group of guys and stay together
♥ Happy hour from 4.20 pm – 5.20 pm daily
♥ Exceptionally friendly service
If you’re traveling in a group, NYAH Key West might be just what you’re looking for. The private rooms can accommodate up to six adults, and the shared dorm-style rooms have four single beds, bunk-style. The hotel is for adults only, so you must be 18 and over.
With three pools and a hot tub, you’ll never get bored lazing poolside. Take advantage of the early happy hour, perfectly timed, to prepare you before you head out for the night.
♥ There are only 12 rooms
♥ The private courtyard oasis
♥ Curated artwork and furnishings in every room
♥ Adult-only resort
Francisco Marrero, a prominent local cigar maker, built this house in 1891 for his wife. Today, the beautiful home is now a boutique hotel, honoring his name — Marreros Guest Mansion. The original architecture remains, but the inside is modernly decorated, including curated artwork.
The location, half a block from Duval Street, is perfect. Walk outside the resort, turn left, and you’re right in the heart of it. We love the private courtyard oasis, complete with a saltwater pool and wrap-around sundeck.
♥ Adults-only resort
♥ Bring a group and share a cottage
♥ Only 2 blocks from Duval Street
♥ Lower room rates than many other properties
Paradise Inn is an adults-only (18+) resort made up of suites and stand-alone cottages. It’s conveniently located in a quiet back street of Key West and only a few minutes from the bars on Duval Street.
We love the classical and contemporary mix in the decor of the rooms; the combination of light oak, natural fibers, and marble really works. Choose from one of the suites, or if you’re with a group of up to six people, stay in one of the cottages.
Every day there’s a wine and cheese happy hour from 5 pm to 7 pm.
♥ Perfect location on Duval Street
♥ Two pools – one for laps and one for chillaxing in
♥ Unique rooms, choose from 11 different houses or cottages
♥ The sweet scent of night-blooming Jasmine and Frangipani
Wicker Guesthouse is unique in Key West as it’s a group of 11 historic houses and cottages spread across a two-block area right on Duval Street, the gay party district.
All up there are 42 available rooms, all with their own individual styles and decor. Each of the 11 properties has a private entrance.
There aren’t any restaurants on-site, but they’re unnecessary as dining options are right on your doorstep. However, they do serve continental breakfast by the pool every morning, and that’s how everyone should start their day in Key West.
♥ Men-only gay resort
♥ All guests get four free happy-hour drinks
♥ Clothing optional areas
♥ 24 hour poolside bar
Commonly referred to as ‘The Best Gay Resort in the World,’ The Island Resort is a playground in paradise for gay men in Key West. It’s tucked away on a quiet street in the island’s center but still conveniently located near the gay party area of Duval Street a few blocks away.
The heated pool area is where the partying never stops, and we love the outdoor jacuzzi and rain shower. Happy hour is where it all happens, and the four free drinks for every guest sure start the party off right.
The broad range of room types were refurbished in 2022 and now feature blissful memory foam beds with luxury bedding.
♥ Gay owned and operated
♥ It’s a 120-year-old Conch-style house
♥ Adult-only property (21+)
♥ Intimate 17-room property
There is so much to love about Alexander’s Guesthouse. For starters, it’s been an LGBTQI safe space since 1982, but they promote that everyone is welcome and ‘Love Always Wins.’
The property is a lovingly restored 3-story Conch-Style house built in 1902 and is listed on the National Historic Register. We love the location on a quiet tree-lined street in the island’s center.
It’s an adults-only resort; sometimes, a break from the kind of white noise kids make is welcome.
Planning a Key West wedding? Alexander’s Guesthouse specializes in intimate weddings and vow renewals and has affordable packages.
♥ One block from Duval (party) Street
♥ Spectacular views from the Sunset Deck
♥ Fully equipped kitchens in the suites
♥ Pet friendly
Opal Key Resort & Marina has a fantastic location right on the Gulf. The sunsets from this most western point of the island are some of the most spectacular in all of the continental USA.
The hotel has its own Sunset Deck for the exclusive use of its guests. It’s only open from 5 pm to an hour after sunset. After sunset, head on over to Duval Street, where all the gay action happens. It’s only a block from your hotel!
The rooms have an inviting light and airy feeling. Our tip is to upgrade to a suite; you get double the space, a fully equipped kitchen, and better views. We love a pet-friendly hotel, and Opal Key Resort & Marina allows slightly bigger dogs than the others; they can be up to 30 lbs, and you can bring two!
♥ Adults-only (25+)
♥ Luxury all-suite hotel
♥ Rooftop deck pool
♥ Private plunge pools
One block from the gay nightlife in Duval Street, H2O is an excellent choice for the discerning single or couple who wants the peace and quiet of an adults-only resort.
H2O Suites is an intimate resort with only 22 rooms, 11 of which have plunge pools. You only live once, right? While you’re here, upgrade to one of the luxury suites with a private pool.
We love the rooftop pool, sipping cocktails, and snacking on Tapas while looking right over the historic Old Town.
