Montreal Gay Bathhouses

Montreal is bathhouse-friendly with four of them. Three of them are in the Village gayborhood, and the fourth is only a 10-minute cab ride away.

At the north of the gayborhood, there are two Montreal gay bathhouses, almost directly across the road from each other, and the third one is at the south on the same street. They’re open 24 hours—because apparently, Montreal never does shut down the steam.

The three Montreal gay bathhouses in the gayborhood are your standard fare with communal showers, steam rooms, hot tubs, and rooms for hire. The fourth one, a nod to its past life as a Turkish Bath, offers massages—at a cost, of course.

Almost 40 Years in the Gayborhood

The first of the bathhouses in the Village gayborhood is Sauna Oasis on St Catherine Street East. Even though it’s been operating for almost 40 years, recent reviews still rave about how fun the vibe is there. Standard facilities include showers, a steam room, glory holes, and video rooms. Private rooms, complete with a bed and a mirror, are available for hire, and the rate is lower during the day.

Sauna Oasis is open 24/7, and Saturday afternoons are the most well-attended. Sunday evenings after 5 p.m., free pizza is offered

Sauna GI Joe on St Catherine Street in the Village gayborhood reopened in July 2024 after being renovated. The response from recent guests is that they love the new look and facilities. The massive venue covers four floors, including an outdoor terrace and a basement; as well as the usual facilities, there’s also a dungeon room.

Turkish Style Bathhouse Since 1914

Bain Colonial has been a bathhouse since 1914. It was co-ed until 1994 when it became men-only. It’s been refurbed yet still maintains the Turkish bath and outdoor terraces. There are loads of facilities here, including a gym, open showers, and an on-site masseur.

Recent reviews rave about how much fun guests have here, with many saying they plan return visits. The venue is in the Plateau Mont-Royal district, 10 minutes in a cab from the Village gayborhood. It’s open at midday every day and closes at 10 pm every night except Sundays when it closes at 8 pm.

Bathhouse in the Heart of the Gayborhood

The second sauna in the Village gayborhood is Sauna Centre-Ville. Generous in size, over two floors, it features all the standard expectations of a bathhouse, with the addition of a sling room.

Like its competitor across the road, Sauna Oasis, it’s open 24/7. There’s stiff competition between the two; most reviewers comment that Sauna Centre-Ville caters to a more mature clientele.
