12 Best Luxury Gay-Friendly Hotels in Mykonos

As one of Europe’s trendiest island destinations, Mykonos has no shortage of beautifully designed luxury hotels for the discerning traveler. Due to the compact size of Mykonos town (Chora), most luxury hotels are small boutique affairs, although the rooms and suites themselves are often large and lavish. Make sure you get your own private balcony, preferably overlooking the Aegean and with an outdoor hot tub or plunge pool from which to enjoy the views. Of course, there’s always the option of splashing out on a luxury private pool villa – best enjoyed as a romantic getaway or an all-out party holiday with a large group of friends.

Mykonos is internationally known for its gay culture and hedonistic party scene. As such pretty much all accommodation in Mykonos is gay-friendly. Gay people on the island will not raise any eyebrows, and you can generally feel comfortable and safe here.

In other parts of Greece, it may be advisable for you to be careful and discreet to avoid any hassle. As a traditionally religious and conservative country, Greece does lag behind the rest of Europe in terms of social acceptance of homosexuality and visibility of gay issues.

Since the vast majority of Mykonos gay nightlife is located in Chora, all the gay-friendly hotels in this list are based in and around Mykonos town (gayborhood). It is a small town, with everything being within walking distance to each other – do bear in mind, however, that “walking distance” could still mean tackling an incredibly steep hill or two.

HOTELS
Why we love it

♥ Stylish 4-star “straight-friendly” hotel, one of the town’s biggest gay hotspots
♥ Incredible sunset terrace hosts popular gay events
♥ All rooms have a small balcony, terraces and showstopping sea views

Elysium is one of the most booked gay hotels in Mykonos, and for good reason. This stylish 4-star is “straight-friendly”, but is very much one of the town’s biggest gay hotspots during the summer peak season. This is thanks in part to its poolside terrace bar, which combines some of the island’s most stunning sunsets with drag shows, parties, and more.

The hotel itself is modern and low-key. The rooms are decorated in a refreshing and minimalist style, with an entirely white color scheme offset by pieces of contemporary art. They come in two categories, with the Superior rooms being considerably larger. All rooms have at least a small balcony, although some have larger terraces and some have lovely sea views.

All guests get complimentary access to a small gym as well as to sauna, hydromassage, and steam room facilities.

Elysium is located a little outside the main town center, but it’s still only a 15-minute walk to seaside gay bars like Babylon. The location on top of a hill makes reaching the hotel a climb, but it is also the reason for its exceptional views.

The staff are one of the best things about Elysium. Not only are they attentive and friendly, but they are also a great source of gay insider knowledge about the island. Overall, the rates at Elysium are relatively high for Mykonos standards, but there is nowhere better to stay if you want to be right in the middle of Mykonos gay life.

Why we love it

♥ Honeymoon-standard boutique retreat in a quiet yet fairly central corner of Chora
♥ Couples popular choice hotel and perfect for groups of six people sea views suite
♥ Only 5 mins walk to Elysium sunset bar and 9 mins to Jackie O Bar

Semeli Hotel is the perfect combination of high-end luxury with laid-back island style. The hotel is beautiful and impeccably designed, but nothing feels over-the-top. The style is simple and tasteful, highlighting the beauty of the island’s natural surroundings.

It has an excellent location – just removed enough from the bustle of the town, while still being within easy walking distance to everything. Indeed, all of the town’s best gay bars and clubs are at most 10 minutes away.

All the rooms at Semeli are decorated in a contemporary and understated style, dominated by the island’s ever-present white color scheme. Most have been recently renovated, meaning they feel fresh and new. All have a veranda or balcony, but we recommend splurging on the ones with a hot tub terrace. Several suites are available, which are ideal for groups of friends or for a more luxurious experience.

Semeli takes its Greek food very seriously, and you can taste the region’s exceptional seafood and centuries of culinary tradition at the hotel’s two fine dining restaurants. Breakfast is also a traditionally Greek affair, with home-made pastries and a generous selection of fresh local ingredients.

The hotel also boasts a small gym and a spa offering a variety of packages. There are two outdoor pools, one heated and one not. The larger, central pool has plenty of luxurious lounging space and a great bar.

♥ The Sea View rooms and Traditional Windmill Suites for a group of 4 people are worth the extra money (very Instagramable)
♥ Excellent location for enjoying Mykonos town and gay bars
♥ Boutique vibe with a jaw-dropping view from the infinity pool

This five-star hotel is a family-owned business and offers impeccable, friendly service alongside a trendy and youthful vibe. It is located just outside the main bustle of Chora, with the fun of the main town only a 5-minute downhill walk away. However, the hotel’s lovely whitewashed building and minimalist design make the place feel quiet and peaceful, even in the middle of peak season.

Although on the smaller side, the rooms are stylish and pleasant, blending natural materials with luxury amenities. These include a 32” TV, Illy espresso machine, high-quality linens, mini-fridge and laptops for personal use on request. The Sea View rooms and suites are worth the extra money, and the Traditional Windmill suite – which houses four guests – is particularly atmospheric.

There is a gorgeous outdoor infinity pool for lounging, and a very basic gym with cardio equipment. The hotel serves an excellent buffet breakfast as well as tasty food throughout the day at the poolside bar.
