7 Best Gay-Friendly Hotels in Hamburg

Hamburg is a huge city; it covers 755 km² (292 sq mi), and there are hotels all over it. The good news is that all the best gay-friendly hotels and one hostel are located in or next to the St Georg gayborhood.

Accor, Marriott, and IHG are represented in Hamburg. There’s every budget covered, from the absolute luxury Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten by the lake, to a city-style Holiday Inn, and a hostel that’s part of the Generator group, popular across the US and Europe.

As far as amenities go, most of the 4–5 star properties have a wellness section with a spa area and often a sauna. Fitness centers are prominent, yet swimming pools aren’t, with only two of the seven properties currently having one, and one property planning one by 2027.

While there are no exclusively gay owned or operated hotels in Hamburg, the fact that the seven properties here are all in or near the St Georg gayborhood suggests that gay people are extremely welcome. The international chains and many boutique properties actively market to gay travelers.

St. Georg, while not officially a gayborhood, is the beating gay heart of Hamburg — home to bars, cruise clubs, and saunas all within easy walking distance. Right next to Lange Reihe, the city’s gay street, you’ll find Reichshof Hotel, perfectly placed for nights out at M&V Bar (a local favorite with the hottest crowd) and nearby gay saunas. No wonder it’s a gay popular hotel.

Three kilometers west is St. Pauli, the legendary red-light district, where another six gay venues keep the party going.

For Instagrammers, a place worth visiting is the Speicherstadt & Kontorhaus District. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site made of red-brick warehouses linked by canals. While there, visit Miniatur Wunderland (the world’s largest model railway and miniature world).

Another place for gay travelers to visit in Hamburg is the port area. It’s nicknamed the “Gateway to the World,” and visitors can take boat tours and enjoy waterside dining.
