The Gayborhood: Zona Romántica
The heart and soul of Puerto Vallarta’s queer scene lies in Zona Romántica (also known as Old Town). South of the Cuale River, this vibrant colonia is a dense, walkable neighborhood with historic cobblestone streets, local artisan shops, and open-air dining.
At the edge of Zona Romántica lies Los Muertos Beach, the epicenter of daytime social life. Home to popular LGBTQ+ beach clubs like Mantamar and Blue Chairs, the shore comes alive with music, oceanfront dining, and sunset views near the iconic Los Muertos Pier.
As night falls, Zona Romántica transforms into a bustling nightlife district. Everything is concentrated within a few blocks, from high-energy dance clubs like Industry and darkroom spaces to relaxed piano bars, drag theaters, and street taco stands. The neighborhood also offers a wide range of gay-owned boutique hotels, condo rentals, and local gay bathhouses, making it easy to stay, play, and socialize in one friendly enclave.

Annual major gay events in Puerto Vallarta’s calendar are packed with major festivals, holiday weekends, and international circuit events that draw visitors from around the globe:
Beef Dip Bear Week & Bearadise (Late January): One of the largest international bear festivals in the world. Thousands of bears, cubs, and admirers descend on the city for a week of pool parties, catamaran cruises, foam events, and nightly club takeovers.
Fairyland Music Festival (March): A beachside queer house music festival hosted at Mantamar Beach Club, bringing international DJs and electronic beats directly to the shore of the Romantic Zone.
Easter / Semana Santa Circuit Festivals (March/April): Easter week is a massive holiday across Mexico, and Industry Superclub alongside Mantamar host multi-day circuit party weekends featuring headline DJs and high-production light shows.
Halloween (Late October / Early November): Combining American Halloween revelry with Mexican Día de los Muertos traditions. Expect costume contests, the White Party Halloween Edition at Industry, and Day of the Dead parade celebrations along the iconic Malecon.
