The Opposite House is a 20-minute walk from Destination Club, making it an excellent option if you are looking to enjoy the Beijing Gay nightlife. If 20 minutes seems too long for you (or Destination Club too big and pricey), perennial gay favorite Kai Bar is a mere 3 minutes away, ready to tempt you with its ultra-cheap drinks and casual atmosphere.

However, it’s not all about the location. The hotel itself is exceptional, with striking, minimalist design transforming every room and common area into an oasis of understated luxury within the city. The hotel was designed by famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who has brought together contemporary style and Chinese tradition for an overall effect that is equal parts totally unique and deceptively simple.

There are two restaurants, one offering high-quality Chinese cuisine and the other more low-key, cafe-style offerings. The bar, MESH, has a great selection of wines and cocktails and occasionally hosts gay nights. There is also a stunning indoor pool, a steam room, and a state-of-the-art gym.

Destination club dominates the gay nightlife of Beijing, and this 5-star hotel is perfectly placed for those who want to party every night of their stay. CHAO is under 20 minutes away on foot – essentially just on the other side of the sprawling Beijing Sports Worker’s Stadium. There is also a shopping mall next door, as well as some of Beijing’s best nightlife throughout Sanlitun.

CHAO radiates modern luxury in every detail. The rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, solid wood, and leather furniture, as well as espresso coffee, artisanal teas, and an honest-to-god bar for you to make your own cocktails. The decor is subtle, tasteful, and impeccably designed for comfort and relaxation.

Every hotel booking comes with access to the Clubhouse, which is where CHAO truly shines. Facilities at this exclusive “Club” include – to name a few – a restaurant, bar, wine cellar, private cinema, cigar veranda, tea house, gym, library, and drawing room.

The last two are particularly useful for digital nomads, remote workers, or simply those who know they will need to do a bit of work during their time in Beijing. There is also an exciting calendar of workshops and events on a variety of subjects.

Part of the Hilton’s Conrad chain of luxury hotels, Conrad Beijing has all the usual features of a 5-star hotel. Lovely, carefully designed rooms with huge windows and sweeping city vistas? Check. State-of-the-art fitness and swimming facilities? Check. A generous selection of dining and drinking options? Check.

This hotel ticks all the boxes for a luxurious 5-star stay in Beijing, and comes with the reliability that accompanies a brand like Hilton, but there is little in the way of innovation or special extras. It is worth spending a little more for an executive room, giving you access to the Executive Lounge and its stunning city view. This also includes complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour drinks.

Destination Club is half an hour away on foot, which is just far enough that many people would prefer a taxi. However, there is plenty to do, see, eat, and drink in Chaoyang District, making this a great location in general. There is a nearby metro station (Hujialou, Lines 6 and 10) and Tuanjuehu Park next door is a wonderful local spot for strolling and people-watching. It even has a small (but clean and fun) water park for those hot summer days.

InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun sits at the very top of Sanlitun Road, one of China’s trendiest streets and a Beijing nightlife hotspot. Here, you will find the biggest concentration of bars and clubs in the city, as well as a generous selection of international brand stores. The walk to Destination Club may be a bit too long – over half an hour – but you definitely won’t get bored in this location.

The rooms are all sleek, modern, and high-tech, with the cheapest category (“Classic”) still offering first-rate accommodation and amenities. The Executive rooms and Suites, however, do come with Club InterContinental privileges, including access to the excellent Club Lounge and its complimentary food and drinks throughout the day.

Food options are varied and all delicious, including separate Chinese and Japanese restaurants, a tapas bar, and a Western-style dining room. Meanwhile, the bars offer a selection of innovative cocktails with high-end contemporary surroundings.

W Hotels have long been a gay-favorite brand, standing out thanks to their young, fresh approach to hotel design and their first-rate amenities. W Beijing is no different, and this alone will be enough to convince many gay travelers to the city.

As usual with W hotels, you can expect colorful, contemporary decor that ranges from quirky to outright extravagant. Think round beds, neon lights, giant patterned rugs, gold accents, and huge jacuzzi-style tubs. Several rooms also have huge wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling windows, making them exceptionally airy and impressive.

There is a luxury spa and beautiful fitness facilities with majestic city views. Two restaurants cater to all your Chinese and Western food needs, and the two lounge bars are the perfect place to start out a night of classy cocktail-sipping.

The only downside for gay visitors is the location. As it is based in Chang’an, the nightlife of Sanlitun is just slightly outside of comfortable walking distance. However, a short 15-minute taxi ride is enough to get you to Destination Club and Sanlitun Bar Street. Besides, the location has other benefits: there is a metro station nearby, and Beijing Railway Station is just 20 minutes away on foot.

Asia Hotel is very well located near the Worker’s Stadium, less than a 10-minute walk from Destination Club and a 5-minute walk from Dongsishitiao metro station (Line 2). It is an independent Chinese hotel with a 5-star rating, although it is simpler than other newer, more modern 5-star hotels. However, it is also very reasonably priced, making it a good intermediate hotel if you want to save some money.

The decor is a bit dated in some rooms, but is otherwise pleasantly neutral and understated. The secluded garden is a particularly pleasant addition, with a small pond, birds in cages, and places to sit. There is an indoor pool for swimmers, a small gym, and basic spa facilities. The food in the hotel’s four restaurants is delicious and authentic Chinese, including an excellent breakfast buffet.

Overall, Asia Hotel is lacking in some 5-star aspects, but has very good rates, a great location, and comfortable enough facilities. As long as you consider it as more of a mid-range choice, it is a very good option.

This boutique hotel specializes in compact yet lavishly decorated rooms. The style is fun, unique and purposely sexy: round beds, faux fur throws, in-room jacuzzi tubs, and plenty of metallics and animal prints. A perfect choice for attention-grabbing Insta posts and for couples, as long as you don’t mind the relatively small space.

Sanlitun Mark Jacobs Boutique Hotel is also extremely well located in the center of Sanlitun. Destination is a 20-minute walk away, and the surrounding area is filled with other great nightlife, dining, shopping, and entertainment options.

The hotel can be a bit difficult to find since it is housed in a larger building. It is also not signed as Mark Jacobs Boutique hotel: look for signage marked “R-Kiss Hotel” when you get to the address.

AC Embassy Hotel (also known as AC Art Museum Hotel) is located in Sanlitun, an easy 20-minute walk away from Destination Club. It’s ideally placed on Dongzhimen Outer Street, exactly in between two metro stations, Agricultural Exhibition Center (Line 10) and Dongzhimen (Line 2 and Airport Line). These links provide easy transport to key landmarks in the city, including Tiananmen Square and the National Stadium.

The hotel itself is high-end but slightly old-fashioned (unless lots and lots of marble is your thing). It is also spotless, comfortable, and well-maintained. Original artwork is featured in every room and common area, and there is even a gallery space with a rotation of works by Chinese artists.

Service is of the standard you would expect for a 4-star hotel. The staff do not always speak fluent English, but are friendly and always happy to help.

Unlike most of the hotels on this list, Novotel Beijing Xinqiao is not based in the Sanlitun entertainment area. However, its location in Xinqiao is exceptional if your priority in Beijing is sightseeing. This, combined with the usual high standard of the Novotel chain, has made it one of the most booked hotels on this list.

The hotel is just over a 20-minute walk (or a 10-minute drive) from Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the National Museum of China, and there is even a metro station just across the street (Chongwenmen, Lines 2 and 5). It’s good to note that Line 2 can take you to Destination Club within half an hour.

The hotel has a long history, having been founded in 1954. Despite this, it has managed to stay up-to-date, meaning the decor is modern and new. It does look very similar to a Novotel hotel anywhere in the world, but with nice Chinese-style touches to make it feel more local.

One of this hotel’s most unique features is that is located over a natural hot spring, which supplies water to all guestrooms as well as the spa. The food is tasty, especially the Peking Duck at Utopia restaurant. The breakfast buffet in the mornings is both varied and affordable.

A-Hotel is located inside the Beijing Worker’s Stadium, making it a true party location. Destination Club is just over 10 minutes away on foot, with other popular gay bars like Kai Bar and Alfa equally nearby. Sanlitun bar street is also walking distance, so you will never have a boring night while staying here. Because of this exceptional location, A-Hotel is a Top 100 seller on Travel Gay Asia.

The hotel decor is modern and colorful, if not a bit tired in places. The rooms are spacious with nice facilities – check out the Superior Fashion Room with in-room bathtub. Due to the location inside the stadium, it is an unusual layout, with very long corridors that only have rooms on one side.

Overall, the best thing about A-Hotel is its location and good value for money – stay here if you plan to make the most of Beijing’s nightlife, or if you enjoy a unique independent hotel.

This is a series of compact but well-designed studio and en-suite apartments in a residential building. The apartments are perfect for one or two people, providing everything you need for a comfortable stay. There is a small, well-equipped kitchen for you to make your own meals, plenty of storage room, and even your own laundry facilities – in short, a great “home away from home” hotel.

Most rooms have a pleasant bay window area with seating, as well as plenty of natural light. Everything is clean and well-maintained, and there is staff available if you ever need help. Because it is in a residential building, it can be a bit hard to find, so do contact the hotel in advance to ask for specific instructions.

New Oriental Suites is very well located in Sanlitun, meaning you can party hard and then return to your quiet, cozy apartment when you feel like relaxing. Destination Club is 15 minutes away, and the closest metro line is directly connected to the airport.

Ibis Beijing Tuanjuehu is located in Sanlitun, but slightly east of the main concentration of nightlife. This makes it a quiet hotel, good if you don’t like sleeping close to bars or clubs, but it does mean that there are few dining and nightlife options nearby. There is, however, a metro station a 10-minute walk away (Tuanjiehu, Line 10). You will need to get a taxi to get to and from Destination Club, as it is a bit too far to walk.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, and this is overall one of the best ibis hotels in central Beijing. Rates are, as always, fair and affordable. If you are in doubt between this ibis and the Dongdaqiao location, it depends on what you prefer: the Tuanjiehu location has better rooms, but the Dongdaqiao one is better located for nightlife.

This is a charming budget hotel, with traditional Chinese design and plenty of pleasant outdoor spaces filled with local plant life. It is located in one of Beijing’s famous hutong areas, which gives it an extremely authentic feel. The Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square are nearby, about a 30-minute walk (or, if you don’t feel like walking, a 15-minute taxi). Dongsi metro station (Lines 5 and 6) is also close.

The rooms are all decorated in a simple but tasteful style, with traditional Chinese illustrations on the walls. The loft rooms are a particularly good choice, offering a separate living room area for a more apartment-style experience. There is a restaurant and bar offering tasty food, and the staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful.

This is a great budget choice, so pleasant and carefully decorated that it doesn’t even feel particularly “budget”. The location is not great for nightlife, so it is better suited for people who want to see the more traditional and historic side of Beijing. That said, Destination Club is only a short 10-minute taxi ride away, so you can very much enjoy the best of both worlds staying here.

Tell Me Everything
Happy Dragon Hostel is a simple but friendly backpacker option in central Beijing. There is nothing particularly fancy and modern, but the beds are comfortable and the staff are extremely friendly. They also offer tours, some of which are great value for money.

This is not a dorm-style hostel, so all the rooms are private and en-suite. This is good because it means you have privacy and don’t have to worry about being kept up at night. However, it also means that this is closer to a budget hotel than to a hostel, with few opportunities to meet and chat with people.

The hostel is great for sightseeing – the Forbidden City, Tianenmen Square, and Wangfujing pedestrian street all reasonably close (about a half-hour walk or a 10-minute taxi). Dongsi station is a short walk away, making it very easy to connect to the rest of the city in all directions. You can reach the nightlife of Sanlitun, including Destination Club and other gay bars, in about 15 minutes by taxi.
