21 Questions with Bachelor of the Week
In the week where 14 flights from Changi Airport, Singapore to Bali were canceled due to the eruption of Mount Agung, we bring you Marcus from SG. There’re so many hot spots from tropical beaches, multicultural and its vibrant nightlife scenes. Much more will be shared by this single and hot medical student, are you sure Singapore isn’t on your mind to visit (again)?
“I’m a Chinese-Filipino gay man, born and raised on the tiny island of Singapore. I’m in my final year of Medical School, which means I’m gonna be a doctor soon (heh). I used to do Cheerleading, and currently focusing on bodybuilding as my main hobby. Many people ask about my very interesting “SEX” tattoo I did in 2017. I thought it’s very sexy to have a tattoo on abs by Songkran (Water Fight festival in Thailand). I eventually did get a 6-pack and it came up in my head when I was lying in bed, here we go.”

Marcus on coming out & life as a gay man:
I officially came out into the scene in April 2017. Before that, I was very unsure about opening myself up to the gay community, but a few influential people in the global gay scene made me realize that it is only by opening up to the community that the community will fully support you and accept you.
I must say I’ve made some amazing friends so far in these past 6 months, both from Singapore and overseas. I travel quite a lot and it is amazing to meet so many people. I feel grateful that there are so many friendly gay men out there who would host me and make my trips so fun and enjoyable. Quick shoutout to great friends like Will See, Jordan Kwan from HK, and of course my Tita, RJ Mariano from Manila.
Singapore is a very small community. There are many people out there who are still very closeted and are uncomfortable with people like me, who are very open about sexualities. Some are fearing that it would affect social acceptance. Also, word spreads around very fast in our little community so you don’t wanna get yourself involve in any drama haha. I also am pretty sad that the gay culture is not very strong here in SG.
Not showing your face pic on dating apps is (a little part) of gay lifestyle that I get annoyed. Gay is a unique identity and our lifestyle is so vibrant. I’m proud to be gay and get share my stories with so many straight people out there in hopes that they will accept and maybe even experience the gay culture.”
